A small little taco place in La Condesa that had some amazing liver and stewed meats.

Mexico City Trip - Day 001

Daily Highlights:

  • Woke up on time at 4:30am

  • Arrived in Mexico City and immediately got lost trying to find the subway

    • Perk - I’m rapidly learning Spanish

  • Snagged some Al Pastor tacos and checked into my hostel

  • Immediately went around wandering taking photos

  • Took a break to read on the rooftop and was exhausted

  • I took an hour nap

  • Then walked around some more, got a few pastries, and decided to call it an early night

I think I like Mexico because it has a similar quality to China were it forces you to learn the language but once you even learn a little, the doors open up to have wonderful experiences. Also the area around the hostel shuts down completely at like 8:00pm and there are police in riot gear posted around most blocks.

Mexico City Trip - Day 002

Daily Highlights:

  • Woke up early and felt great

  • Went out to walk around La Merced Market

    • Accidentally bought a pound of strawberries

    • Really bustling, cool market but not socially acceptable to take photos

  • Had a bit of a siesta and recharged my phone

  • Went to La Condesa and Tacos El Guero

  • Took the metro back to the hostel and then back to La Condesa to meet up with some buddies from college at a bar

  • Then went to a Lucha Libre match

It’s interesting how little tourists are in Mexico City, it’s pretty nice.

Mexico City Trip - Day 003

Daily Highlights:

  • Went to Xochimilco in the morning and cruised around on a boat for a few hours

  • Had a great time but was exhausted, dehydrated, and got too much sun

  • Once I got back to the hostel, I passed out for two hours

  • I needed some food, but it was past 8:00pm so mostly everything was closed. The only place open was a spot called Vips (think like a Mexican Denny’s/ Bob Evans), which was super interesting to people watch both inside and outside

  • Then I slept for 12 hours

Mexico City Trip - Day 004

Daily Highlights:

  • Woke up early and felt great

  • Walked around and went back to La Merced Market

    • I got fresh Orange Juice from a lady with operating out of a shopping cart with a huge ice block that chilled all the juices, sat next to an old man on a stoop, and watched all the people and early morning shuffle by

    • Bounced to the indoor market and wandered

    • Got fresh pineapple juice and people watched some more

  • Then met up with the buddies from college to go to Los Panchos for the carnitas

  • Bounced to a rooftop bar and got drinks

  • Bounced to Departamento for some solid music and a few drinks in Roma

  • Cruised over to Los Cocuyos from some tacos

    • Waited in line with a few people from the hostel and buddies from college

    • Got the standard fare and then experimented with some brain, eye, tongue, and tripe tacos

Mexico City Trip - Day 005

Daily Highlights:

  • Woke up early, got some coffee, walked around the Zocalo to see the Old Post Office

  • Showered, checked out, recharged my phone, and got some more Los Cocuyos tacos

  • I wandered around trying to use take enough photos to finish the roll of film

  • Took the metro back to the airport and got there a bit early

  • Arrived right before midnight on July 4th, so on the drive home I got to see all of the fireworks popping off

Portugal Trip
June 22, 2025

Some photos and thoughts from a trip to Portugal in April 2025. Finally wrote everything down and cobbled it together. This is my first time in mainland Europe and went to Amsterdam, Lisbon, and Porto.

Learning more about the bittersweet curse of nothing feels as good as leaving home, and nothing feels as good as coming back home.

Costa Rica Trip
May 6, 2023

So it’s been about a month since I went to Costa Rica with Connor for about ten days. Apart from the flight and the first nights accommodation, everything else was booked last minute or an hour or two in advance. There was no pressure and it felt nice to have the freedom to change things if we needed, which we did frequently.

June 26, 2021

This is the second leg of our camping trip in Utah where we hiked and stayed around Bryce Canyon National Park. We camped in a wonderful upscale glamping tent and slept in beds above the ground. The days were hot at around 105 degrees and the nights were chilly at around 40 degrees.

SF Trip 003 - Third Quarantine Roll of Film Developed - 35mm
September 13, 2020

Just got a third roll of quarantine film back. The past couple weeks have been spent relaxing outside as much as possible, day trips along the coast, and just getting lost zigzagging in the city. These are some scenes from living life a little more slowly and six feet apart.

SF Trip 002 - Second Quarantine Roll of Film - 35mm
July 29, 2020

This is my second roll of film developed in quarantine. These past few months have been filled with strange times that feel like they keep getting stranger. One of the things that has kept me calm and has been a great release has been continuing to wander around the city in the quiet hours of the day. Waking up early in the morning to bike or wander around the city with no real goal other than getting out of the house and breathing fresh air. These are some subdued scenes from the past few months.

SF Trip 001 - First Quarantine Roll of Film Developed - 35mm
May 22, 2020

I just got my first roll of film developed in quarantine. I have been staying sane by running all over Golden Gate Park, reading mountains of books, and being one of the few people still wandering around the city. These are some scenes from living life a little slower and staying six feet apart.

Asia Trip 021 - Western Sichuan 川西 - 002
October 17, 2019

I absolutely LOVE TAGONG! It feels so unique, foreign, genuine, and real. It feels like the wild west here. Everyone has cowboy hats on, rides horses, there are big grasslands and it really feels like you’re living life on the fringes.

This place has a certain ineffable quality to it, that people can’t quite figure out. It feels like an old western way station town with monasteries, filled with so much Buddhist culture. The people here are gruff but unusually friendly, more wild and very rough. Everyone you talk to is usually Buddhist and are dressed in either normal clothes or traditional robes.

I had a picture of this giant Buddha on my PC ever since I was sixteen and have dreamed of coming here for a decade. It’s a pretty wild feeling to see something online, want to venture there for years and one moment be standing right under a place you’ve always imagined.
